The Dane County Farmland Preservation Plan makes farmers eligible for state benefits under the Working Lands Initiative, including income tax credits under WI State Statute Ch. 91.51. The Dane County Farmland Preservation Plan is adopted as part of the Dane County Comprehensive Plan under Chapter 82, Dane County Code.
2022 Update and Recertification
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) last certified the Dane County Farmland Preservation Plan in 2012. State certification expires on December 31, 2022. The Dane County Department of Planning and Development, under the direction of the Zoning and Land Regulations committee, will be preparing an update of the plan to meet certification standards under section 91.10 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
